Trading Standards

Trading Standards protect consumers and businesses in West Lothian by advising businesses, inspecting trade premises, testing equipment, sampling goods and investigating complaints. We also work in partnership with Citizens' Advice who provide a national consumer advice service.

Consumer Advice

If you need advice or wish to make a complaint about any goods or services you have bought please refer to the Citizens Advice - Adviceguide.

If you need further advice or assistance, you can telephone the Citizens' Advice Consumer Service on 03454 04 05 06. They will record details of your complaint on their database and will also forward it to the relevant Trading Standards service, so that it can be assessed to see if any further investigation is required.The advice and information they give is free and you can call as many times as you need to.

Business Advice

If you need advice about goods or services you supply please refer to the Trading Standards Institute. If you need further advice or assistance we can offer advice to West Lothian businesses about Trading Standards law. Please email us at tradingstandards@westlothian.gov.uk, we aim to respond to your enquiry within 2 working days. Please include your full company name and address including post code.

If you are a business that is based outwith West Lothian and you require advice you will need to contact your own local authority Trading Standards. Contact details can be obtained by entering your post code on the Trading Standards Institute website.
