Certificate for storage of petroleum

Trading Standards are responsible for the enforcement of the Petroleum (Consolidation) Regulations 2014 which requires anyone who keeps more than a very small amount of petrol to obtain a Petroleum Storage Certificate. Please complete the Certificate for Storage of Petroleum application (PDF, 41 KB)(opens new window) form and review our fees and charges (PDF, 107 KB)(opens new window)

For safety, at home you should keep the minimum amount necessary. Petrol must only be kept in approved containers and they must be properly labelled. If the modern plastic approved containers are used, then no more than two 5 litre containers are permitted. Petrol must never be stored in your house.
