Witnesses are being sought after the thoughtless fly-tipping of waste from a bathroom and kitchen renovation at the Knock in Bathgate.

A significant amount of waste, including sharp broken tiles and nails, was dumped at the Knock car park on either Saturday 15 or Sunday 16 August.

Staff from the council's Neighbourhood Environment Teams (NETs) have been out on Monday 17 August morning to clear the site and make it safe for use once more.

Anyone who has information on this appalling act should contact the council on 01506 280000 or Contacting the Council

Those responsible face a £200 fixed penalty notice for illegal dumping, with tradespeople and householders both legally responsible for ensuring that they dispose of their waste items legally and safety.

Executive councillor for the environment Tom Conn said: "The Knock is a well-used local viewpoint, and it's horrendous anyone would spoil it for everyone by illegally dumping waste in the car park.

"If anyone spotted anyone carrying out the illegal dumping or recognises the kitchen and bathroom, please let the council know. Fly-tipping is a shocking act that ruins the environment for everyone, and costs us all money to clear up.

"We would encourage householders to check that anyone carrying our work for them has a valid waste carrier's licence from SEPA to ensure they will dispose of your waste responsibly.

"For householders carrying out their own renovation work, our recycling centres are currently open 7 days from 10am to 6pm to dispose of household waste, with vans and trailers allowed to book a slot in advance."
