Early Payment of School Clothing Grant 2020/21

Dear Parent

West Lothian Council recognise the pressure that the current restrictions are having for families with school age children.  To help ease the pressure on household finances, the council has made the decision to award all parents who received a Clothing Grant and / or Free School Meals in the 2019/20 academic year for their child/children, an early, automatic award of a Clothing Grant and / or Free School meals for the 2020/21 academic year.

Our records show that you received a Clothing Grant and / or Free School Meals in 2019/2020 for children who are part of your household.  You therefore do not need to apply for a Clothing Grant and / or Free School Meal for these children.  We will use the bank account details you provided last year to make the award, or the bank account details you have told us about recently if you qualified for the additional £10 school meal payment.

You should expect to receive the payment on 22 May 2020.  Please note that you will not receive a payment for any child that is moving into 5th year.

They will be expected to apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance.  Please direct them to the Education Maintenance Allowance page.

If you will now also have a child in your household that is going to primary school for the first time they will be entitled to a school clothing grant.  Please use the following link to apply for a School Clothing Grant.  Please note that this additional payment may not be made at the same time as the payment for your existing school age children but we will endeavour to process payment as soon as possible.

All children entering P1 to P3  will automatically be entitled to Free School Meals

If you would like to apply for free milk for your child/children in P1 to P3, you will find information you can apply online.

If you have any questions, please send them to EducationBenefits@westlothian.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely

Dr Elaine Cook
