Illegal Off Road Bikes
Motorbike Danger in Local Communities.
Police in West Lothian continue to receive reports of illegal off road bikes being used on streets and paths. Injuries from a motorbike accident can be serious and a life changing experience. To prevent injuries, the Police and Community Safety Partners would like to stop the illegal use of off road bikes.
Often the culprits reside in the area where they are seen. The intention of Police Scotland, West Lothian Council Safer Neighbourhood Team Officers, Schools and Housing Officers is to identify, deter and educate those who are committing such offences.
As well as police carrying out law enforcement, Community Safety Partners secure funding that allows police and partners to refer young people to RUTS, who strive to help young people overcome barriers, enhance skills, gain qualifications and achieve their potential. RUTS do this through using themes of motorbikes, bicycles and general fitness to offer accredited vocational training, as well as bespoke employability and sector-specific courses. RUTS use mobile equipment to deliver services across schools and a range of partner agencies. This collaboration continues to build positive relationships within the community and ensures they can reach, motivate and support the young people who will benefit most.
Officers continue to carry out letter drops in the affected areas, appealing for witnesses.
