Supplementary Guidance on Flood Risk and Drainage

West Lothian Council's current Supplementary Guidance (opens new window) details the technical requirements for drainage and flooding that developers must comply with for planning applications.

Flood Risk Assessments (FRA)

A basic assessment is required for all developments to check whether a site is at risk of flooding or not. 

 

Drainage Assessments (DA)

A basic assessment, including proposed drainage layout, is required for all development applications.   

 

Local Development Plan 2

The current Supplementary Guidance on Flood Risk and Drainage was published in 2018 alongside the Councils current Local Development Plan (LDP 1) . Please refer to Local Development Plan 2 (LDP 2) - Overview for information on the preparation of the Council's next LDP. 

Due to ongoing updates in climate science and the publication of NPF4 in 2023 the Council is developing an updated Supplementary Guidance on Flood Risk and Drainage, once adopted it will replace the 2018 guidance.
