The new West Lothian Economic Investment Plan 2025 - 2035 was officially launched at the iconic Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston recently.

A wide range of local business owners and partner organisations were in attendance for the unveiling of the plan, which sets out a framework on how the council and its partners aim to maximise the economic competitiveness of West Lothian and its contribution to the regional and national economies.

The plan was developed by the council's Economic Development service through a process of research and consultation, identifies four key investment themes that will address opportunities and challenges: Skills and Employment, Enterprise Growth, Enablers of Growth, and Transition to Net Zero.

Depute Leader of West Lothian Council Susan Manion said: "West Lothian has a huge role to play as the heart of Scotland's economy.

"The Economic Investment Plan helps us understand the challenges we might face, and puts us in the best place to seize the opportunities to make sure West Lothian continues to have a strong, diverse economy going forward."

During the launch, representatives from West Lothian Council discussed the positive impact this will have on the local community. These included Chief Executive Graham Hope, who reflected on how West Lothian has grown over recent years and how the plan will support continued growth; Councillor Susan Manion, who shared her aspirations and how the businesses in attendance could contribute to the success of the plan; and Greg Welsh, Interim Depute Chief Executive (Education and Planning), who set out the next steps for the region.

They were joined by two excellent guest speakers in: Jen Howard Coombes, Director of Almond Valley Heritage Centre, who shared the exciting plans that are in place to support the growth of the popular attraction; and Andy Nichol, Head of the Programme Management Office for the Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region Deal, who introduced the next phase of the City Deal Investment Programme.

Economic Development Manager Alice Mitchell added: "Thanks to everyone who came along to support the launch of the West Lothian Economic Investment Plan.

"It was a fantastic morning of valuable insights, positive conversations and exciting networking opportunities for everyone at the event, with Almond Valley Heritage Centre the perfect venue to showcase the best of West Lothian."
