Earlier this summer, a team of inspectors from Education Scotland visited Peel Primary School and Eliburn Nursery.
During their visit, they talked to parents/carers and children and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.

The inspectors rated Peel Primary as being 'Very Good' in both quality indicators; Learning, teaching and assessment and Raising attainment and achievement.
The inspection team found the following strengths in the school's work.
• The headteacher, senior leaders and staff work together well to agree and develop high-quality learning and teaching across the school. Children engage in learning experiences of a consistently high standard as a result.
• Children are friendly, polite and welcoming. They are proud of their school, demonstrate high standards of behaviour and are motivated to learn.
• All teachers are committed to making improvements to their practice through high-quality and ongoing professional development. This is demonstrated through the development of highly effective approaches to assessing children's progress in learning.
• Children experience high levels of achievement through learning. They apply a wide range of skills through their work in a variety of clubs and leadership groups. This develops well their knowledge of leadership and their skills for learning life and work
Eliburn Nursery Class

- Senior leaders and practitioners foster nurturing, positive and caring relationships with children across the setting. As a result, children are highly motivated and engage purposefully with their learning through play.
- Senior leaders and staff use robust and highly effective processes to measure children's progress in learning and attainment over time. They demonstrate clearly the very good progress children make over time as a result.
- The highly skilled practitioners provide a wide range of inspiring and exciting play learning experiences which promote children's curiosity and enquiry within their environment.
A few areas of improvement were identified for both the school and nursery which West Lothian Council will take forward.
Headteacher Hazel Thurlow said: "We are all extremely pleased with the outcome of the inspection and the strengths that have been published. Our team all work extremely hard to deliver for our children across the Primary and Nursery settings so it is pleasing to see this reflected by Education Scotland. We have fantastic pupils to work with and a lovely school community and we will take the feedback provided and move forward together."
Executive councillor for education, Andrew McGuire said: "This is a brilliant report and I'd like to congratulate the staff, pupils and parents at Peel Primary and Eliburn Nursery."
