This applies to all secondary pupils.
All school staff and secondary pupils are strongly encouraged to take a lateral flow test one or two days before they return after the holidays, and then to take tests twice a week after that.
A rapid lateral flow device (LFD) test is a coronavirus test you do yourself. It shows you the result on a handheld device that comes with the test. These tests have been used in secondary schools for several months.
You should only use this type of test if you do not have coronavirus symptoms.
Asymptomatic (if you have no symptoms) testing is one of a range of mitigations used against the spread of COVID-19 in schools. Testing remains voluntary but we will continue to strongly encourage staff and secondary pupils to take part in regular testing, including in the days immediately prior to the return of pupil following the summer holidays.
LFD tests:
• are simple to use
• give a result in 30 minutes
• help find positive cases in people who are infectious but don't have symptoms
How to get a test kit:
- Kits have been available to all pupils in all secondary schools prior to the summer. Many pupils took test kits home from school at the end of term
- You can collect a test kit from your nearest coronavirus test site
- You can collect a test kit from a local pharmacy
- You can order them free online and have them delivered to your home
Everyone in Scotland is encouraged to take this type of test twice a week.
Your LFD test is not complete until you report your result and receive a result confirmation notification. If you receive a positive LFD test result, you must self-isolate immediately and book a PCR test within 48 hours.
