Holocaust Memorial Day
Today, 27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day. It has been held in the UK since 2001 and is a time to reflect and remember the millions of people who have lost their lives in the Nazi Persecution, Holocaust, and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 is Be the Light in the Darkness.
West Lothian Council is one of thousands of organisations across the UK that is marking Holocaust Memorial Day.
Everyone is encouraged to reflect on the depths humanity can sink to, but also the ways individuals and communities have resisted darkness to 'be the light' before, during and after genocide.
We can choose to be the light in the darkness in a variety of ways and places - at home, in public, and online.
Our lights are more powerful when we work together with others.
