"We are concerned that West Lothian has moved into Tier 4 and I'm sure that will be the overriding feeling amongst the local business community and residents.

"The restrictions are impacting upon each and every one of us and clearly this change for West Lothian is a significant step, particularly in terms of the impact that will have on the local economy.

"We know from speaking to local business that some have said that if they have to close again they may not re-open. Today's news is potentially devastating in terms of the impact on our local business community, jobs and the wider economy.

"We will do all we can to help those businesses but this will undoubtedly be seen as a significant step  backwards, and something we would have hoped West Lothian would avoid.  It essential that the Scottish Government provide support to help businesses during these challenging times and we await the details of the financial support that is to be made available to us to help local businesses.

"In terms of further restrictions on local people I know this news will come as a huge blow. We must stick together and work as hard as we can to adhere to the guidance, which will ultimately save lives."
