Why do children and young people need foster care?

Children who need foster families are aged 0-16.

Children in foster care are just like other children, except they have experienced some disruption in their life. They may have experienced neglect, abuse or trauma and in need of a safe and caring home.

These experiences can have a challenging impact on a child's or young person's emotional development and it can take time for children to adjust to living with a new family. We work alongside our foster carers to provide ongoing support and training to ensure our children and young can grow, learn and feel safe.

The children and young people may be anywhere from 0 -18 years old, and occasionally older depending on the circumstances. Where a child or young person has siblings, the aim is to place siblings together when safe to do so.
