  • Curriculum for Excellence

    West Lothian Council follows the National 3-18 Curriculum, known as Curriculum for Excellence, in all of its schools and pre-school establishments.

    The Children (Protection at Work) Regulations 1998, which effectively revoked previous byelaws, and The Children (Protection at Work) Regulations 2006 were introduced in order to implement the child employment provisions of EC Directive 94/33/EC on the protection of young people at work.

    The Educational Psychology Service works to improve the wellbeing and educational outcomes of all children and young people in West Lothian through the application of psychology in practice.

  • Inclusion and Wellbeing Service

    The Inclusion and Wellbeing Service (IWS) supports schools in improving the delivery of education provision, learning experiences and opportunities for children and young people with additional support needs across the curriculum in every educational context and setting, enabling all pupils to achieve at their highest potential. Collaborative planning with multi-agency partners is a key focus throughout the service's strategic and operational activities with the Getting It Right for Every Child agenda underpinning all partnership working.

    The parent/carer of any pupil or student can request education in Gaelic medium.

  • Instrumental Music

    West Lothian Council's Instrumental Music Service provides instrumental music lessons to primary and secondary school pupils and opportunities for these pupils to play in one of the many bands and ensembles that perform regularly at a range of venues and events locally, nationally and internationally.
