Fare Paying Pupils

Information on school transport fares for primary and secondary pupils when free transport does not apply.

Secondary school pupils 

Free School Bus Passes are available for those living at least 2 miles from school. Otherwise a standard fare of 83p per single journey is charged. There are however, ways to save money:

  • Ten journey tickets for £6.50 - used for any ten journeys to or from school or £1.43 return can be paid on the bus.

Ten journey tickets can be obtained from Council Information Offices, or in schools. 

In addition to the main services a number of minibus/taxi services also operate to farms and small communities, whilst conventional service buses - with pupils paying fares - may be used for some journeys to and from school. Please contact the Public Transport Unit for further information.

Primary school pupils 

Free School Bus Passes are available for those living at least 1.5 miles from school. Otherwise a standard fare of 70p per single journey is charged. There are however ways to save money:

  • Ten journey tickets for £5.30 - used for any ten journeys to or from school or a £1.19 return can be paid on the bus.

Ten journey tickets can be obtained from Council Information Offices, or some schools.  

All school contract buses for primary pupils are equipped with seat belts for the safety and comfort of pupils. However, parents must note that it is the responsibility of the child to ensure that the belt is worn - drivers are not expected to leave the cab to assist in securing the belt.
