Naming Ceremony

What is a Naming Ceremony?

A Naming Ceremony is a non-religious celebration for parent(s) or guardian(s) to announce the name they have chosen for their child/children and can be a celebration to welcome the child in to the family. In the presence of family and friends, parents will make promises of love and commitment to the child. You can also choose family members or friends to take the role of 'supporting adults' to the child.

One of our Registrars will arrange the ceremony with you. You can personalise the ceremony to your own requirements and include readings and personal promises.

A commemorative certificate is signed by the parent(s) and supporting adults.

Who are they for?

Children of any age can take part in a Naming Ceremony. Any parent or anyone who has parental responsibilities for that child/children can arrange a Naming Ceremony.

What documents to do I need to provide?

You will need to provide the birth certificate(s) of the child/children who are taking part in the ceremony.

Where can a ceremony take place?

A Naming Ceremony can take place in our Livingston or Bathgate Registration office or in a Venue agreed with the Registrar. A Naming Ceremony can also be incorporated in to a Marriage Ceremony of the parents.

Renewal of Vows

This ceremony is for any married couple who wish to renew their marriage vows at any point in their marriage but often on a special anniversary or even for couples who have married abroad and wish to hold a ceremony upon their return.

The ceremony has no legal status however a commemorative certificate is signed at the end of the ceremony by the couple and two witnesses.

One of our Registrars will arrange the ceremony with you. You can personalise the ceremony to your own requirements to include readings, acknowledgement of children and personal vows or promises to each other.

What documents to do I need to provide?

You will need to provide your Marriage Certificate.

Where can a ceremony take place?

A Renewal of Vows ceremony can take place in our Livingston or Bathgate Registration office or in a Venue agreed with the Registrar.
