Childminder Information

Information on becoming or finding a childminder in West Lothian

What is a childminder?

Childminders are professional childcare workers who work from their own homes to provide a childcare service for other people's children in a family setting.

How do I become a childminder?

Anyone offering a childcare service in their own home for children under the age of 16, for more than two hours a day, for a reward of any kind, must by law be registered by the Care Inspectorate.

Where can I find a childminder in my area?

A list of registered childminders in your area can be found on the Scottish Family Information Service website.  Please note, not all providers choose to display their details with this service.  A full list of registered care service providers and links to other helpful organisations can be found on the  Care Inspectorate website.
