Recycling Centre Information

Useful information for visiting our recycling centres and what items you can dispose of.

Only West Lothian residents can use our recycling centres 

  • Residents are asked to bring along valid ID* when they visit the recycling centres. 

Commercial, business or trade waste at Recycling Centres  

  • Local West Lothian businesses can dispose of key materials at recycling centres free of charge, providing they have a Business Recycling Access Pass. Please see Trade Waste at Recycling Centres for more information on using our recycling centres to dispose of trade waste.

Local residents using a hired or liveried vehicle can use recycling centres 

  • Local residents hiring a van will need to bring along a copy of their hire agreement and valid ID* when they visit the recycling centres. 
  • If you want to use a liveried vehicle to dispose of non-commercial waste you can apply for a residential permit. Please visit Residential Permits for Recycling Centres for full details.

Check in advance to see if you are affected 

  • All West Lothian residents should still be able to use our recycling centres for household waste if they follow the guidelines above. 
  • Staff can refuse access to anyone who has not followed the guidelines.

*Valid ID can be either a current driving licence or passport and recent council tax or utility bill

Information on taking items to your Recycling Centre:

IMPORTANT NOTICE -  For the safety of yourself and others at recycling centres, bins and waste should not be tipped from the back of vans. Bins should also not be taken up any stairs. This is to prevent users falling off vehicles, into skips or down the stairs.

Recycling centres accept a wide range of items, however in some cases there are certain restrictions. Please read the information below for details of what can be taken to our sites.

IMPORTANT NOTICE- Because of the dangers from asbestos if it is disturbed or broken, there are strict laws on transporting and disposing of asbestos. Householders cannot take it to West Lothian Recycling Centres. A specialist contractor will be needed to remove, transport and dispose of asbestos. Please place loose soil in separate skips provided

Gas bottlesPlease take to storage cage and ask for assistance. Please note: Acetylene and commercial CO2 gas bottles are not accepted.
Glass bottles and jarsSeparate glass banks for clear, green and brown glass
Large electrical appliances

Ask at the depot for all accepted small appliances

Cookers, microwaves, washing machines and tumble driers, dishwashers, TV's and monitors, fridge/freezers. Only fridges and freezers that are empty can be accepted.
