New public footway on Murieston Road Livingston

A new footway is to be put in place at the north east end of Murieston Road, Livingston following a recent meeting of West Lothian Council Executive.

A new footway is to be put in place at the north east end of Murieston Road, Livingston following a recent meeting of West Lothian Council Executive.

A guardrail will be constructed as part of a chicane arrangement under the rail bridge.

The scheme will see a change to the road layout approaching the rail bridge as the road merges into one lane with a priority system in operation with traffic heading south having right of way.

The footpath was originally agreed by the Council in 2012 as part of the Cycling, Walking and Safer Street Scheme.

The Council will receive a sum of £80,500 from the nearby Wellhead Farm developers to go towards the construction of the footway which will in turn allow two reserve schemes to be brought forward at Newpark Road, Bellsquarry and at Kirkton Campus.

Leader of West Lothian Council, Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: "We welcome the improvement to the pathing network in Murieston. The development of the new footway will provide a safe and accessible walking route for local residents but in particular for the disabled."
