West Lothian Council's Pest Control team investigate and treat pest control issues through West Lothian.

  • About Pest Control

    The council's Pest Control team investigate and, where necessary, treat premises and land where designated pests are found which are either by their behaviour, location or activity deemed detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the people of West Lothian.

  • Bird Nuisance

    Birds can cause nuisance in a number of ways but the solution is very rarely killing them.

  • Bed Bugs

    West Lothian Council provides a comprehensive service to deal with bed-bug infestations. Bed-bug infestations can take a number of months to control and to be effective requires the total co-operation of the householder.

  • Dermestes Beetles

    West Lothian Council provides a comprehensive service to deal with Dermestes beetle infestations.

  • Mice

    West Lothian Council provides a service to deal with mouse infestations indoors only (including outbuildings, garages and sheds).

  • Rats (Rattus norwegicus)

    West Lothian Council provides a comprehensive service to deal with rat infestations both indoors and outdoors.

  • Wasps

  • Other Insects/Invertebrates

    West Lothian Council deals with a large number of pest invertebrates. Some we cannot treat. The reasons are outlined below.

  • European Mole (Talpa europaea)

    Moles, although not being a health issue can cause unsightly damage to lawns, fields, play areas etc. As such they may be controlled either by trapping or (in the case of a limited area) gassing. They may cause an injury hazard to livestock due to instability of the ground.
