Progress over Regal Theatre future
Progress is being made to deliver a sustainable future for the Regal Community Theatre in Bathgate.
West Lothian Council Executive heard the results of the recent consultation to ask local residents their views on who they would prefer to deliver a viable community use for the B-listed art deco former cinema.
Out of the 767 responses received, West Lothian Leisure and Reconnect Scotland received the highest number of first preferences at 47% and 36% respectively.
Further engagement will now be carried out with both organisations to explore and develop options for future use, before a final decision is made by Council Executive in early 2018.
Leader of West Lothian Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: "Thanks to everyone who took part in our recent consultation on the future of the Regal Community Theatre.
"It was great to receive such as positive response from the local community, and their feedback has enabled us to gauge support for the Regal.
"We will now work with both organisations to develop their plans for delivering a sustainable future for the Regal, with a further report going to Council Executive for decision next year."
West Lothian Council owns, and currently manages, the Regal Community Theatre after the charity who previously managed it went into liquidation earlier this year.
