Simpson Library (Bathgate)

The Simpson Library is located in Bathgate Partnership Centre, home to many council services, community centre and cafe.


The Simpson Library offers a wide range of services to people of all ages:

  • Books for children, young people and adults
  • Talking books
  • Large Print books
  • Book Group
  • Storytimes
  • Bookbug sessions
  • 11 pcs providing free computer access
  • Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service

Opening Hours

Monday - Friday: 8.30am - 8.00pm

Saturday: 9.00am - 5.00pm

Public access PCs shut down at 7.30pm Monday-Friday and 4.30pm on Saturdays.

What's On

  • Bathgate Library Book Group

If you enjoy reading, why not join our reading group? The group is informal and very relaxed and meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6.00pm.

Stories, songs & rhymes for babies, toddlers & pre-school children.  Bring a grown-up with you to share in the fun.

  • Summer Reading Challenge

Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge from Friday 22 June, read six books, take part in fun activities and get rewards - and all for free!  Open to primary school aged children of all reading abilities.  Speak to library staff for more details and to register.  The challenge takes place from 2 July to 17 August 2018.

  • Summer Reading Challenge - Writing Competition

Age 4-11 years, Subject Mischief Makers

You are invited to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge Writing Competition.  Firstly, you need to register for the challenge so please speak to library staff. 

Entries will be judged in two age groups (4-8 years) and (9-11 years). A prize for the best entry in each group will be given at the party on the 17 August 2018.

  • Movie Day & Treasure Hunt

A Summer Reading Challenge event, this takes place on Saturday 7 July from 10.30am until 12.00 noon.

  • Summer Reading Challenge Party

It's party time for all those who have completed the Summer Reading Challenge - well done!  The party and medal ceremony takes place on Friday 17 August at 2.30pm until 4.00pm.

  • IT Buddy

We currently have an I.T. Buddy available on Tuesday mornings between 10am and 12 noon.  If you would like an appointment, telephone 01506 282910, email bathgate.lib@westlothian.gov.uk or speak to a member of staff for more information.


Work Club

There is a Work Club held every Friday morning, 9.30am to 11.30am, where advisers from Access2Employment and Community Learning and Development offer professional help with CVs, job application forms etc. Information on the latest job vacancies is also available.


Access2Employment

The Hub offers employability assistance on a 1 to 1 appointment basis with advisers from Access2Employment.
