Young Scot Card

The Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC) for young people is a free electronic smart card for everyone aged 11 to 25.

What is a Young Scot Card?

A Young Scot Card is a smart card which is available to all young people living in Scotland between the ages of 11 - 25.

What can I use it for?

If you are 16, 17 or 18 or a full time volunteer between the ages of 19 - 25, you can get cheaper transport on buses and trains with your Young Scot NEC Card. If your card does not have a pink stripe please contact us as you will need to renew your card before you can use it for travel.

All card holders between 11 - 25 can get discounts and rewards from participating companies. Cards can also be used as proof of age. More information can be found at the Young Scot website.

How can I apply?

You can request an application form at any of West Lothian Council's Validation Points, or by contacting our Customer Service Centre. You can now also apply online

What do I do next?

Take your completed application form into any Validation Point along with all supporting evidence. If you have applied online, you will also need to take your supporting evidence into one of these offices. The applicant must attend in person.

What supporting evidence do I need?

You must provide two separate forms of identification to prove your date of birth and your address. One of these must be photographic i.d. If you have no photographic i.d. then you will need to provide details of a referee. For a list of acceptable evidence and approved referees please check the document in our related documents.

What do I do if my card is lost, stolen or damaged?

If you require a replacement, please contact us or report this online. If you have changed address since you were last issued with your card, then you will need to take proof of your new address into any Validation Point. You can register a change of address online but will still need to take proof of your new address into a validation point. We are unable to make these changes over the phone or by email.

How do I update my photograph?

You can take a passport photograph into any Validation Point or you can upload a new photograph online. Please note, if your photograph does not comply with passport quality standards, it may be rejected.

Can I use my Young Scot card as proof of age?

If your Young Scot card has the PASS hologram on it then it can be used as proof of age. The Young Scot card is part of the accredited national proof of age scheme, PASS. If your card has been refused for proof of age purposes, then please report this to the Young Scot office on their refusal form.
