Share your Memories of the Second World War

This year brings the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.  Those who served in the War are now in their late eighties and nineties or even older, and are growing fewer year by year.  The Local History Library hopes to record the experiences of some of these men and women before they are lost.

The library staff are looking to contact some of these older people in order to interview them over the next few months.  If you or someone you know remember the war in any capacity - in the forces, on the home front, or as a youngster - and if you are willing to speak about your memories, then get in touch with us on 01506 282491, or by email at localhistory@westlothian.gov.uk, or by post at 89-91 High Street, Linlithgow, EH49 7ED.

This is not the first project to record memories of the Second World War.  Two previous books and DVDs were published to mark the 60th anniversary in 2005: 'Where were you when Spitfires flew?', produced by the West Lothian History and Amenity Society; and '60 WEA Voices, 60 Years On', produced by the WEA.  These and many more books on West Lothian and the Second World War can be seen in the Local History Library.
