Support for Pupils and Parents

Key information on support available to pupils and parents with children and young people at school or nursery

  • Attendance and Behaviour

    Children and young people benefit most from their education when they attend school regularly. Children and young people are expected to follow their School Behaviour Code. In extreme cases, children and young people may be excluded from school.

  • Additional Support for Learning

    West Lothian Council will meet the needs of all children and young people.

  • Childcare and Parenting

    Information on childcare options can be found from the Scottish Families Information Service in the Related Links. Information on support for parents can be found through the links to Sure Start and Parenting West Lothian.

  • Children with Additional Learning Needs - Independent Mediation

    Mediation support services are available to families with children who have additional learning needs.

  • Help with costs

    West Lothian Council will provide free school meals and milk, clothing grants and Education Maintenance Allowance to all eligible children and young people. Breakfast Clubs are available at all Primary and Secondary Schools.
