Important information for all National Entitlement Card Holders
National Entitlement Cards are being replaced. The process of issuing new style cards began on 24 July 2014, so anyone who has received a new or renewal card after that date will already have the new style NEC.
You can compare your card to the examples below to check whether you have the new or old style card.
Old Style Card
|The new style card has the mygovscot or saltirecard logo - replacing the one Scotland logo.|
New Style Cards
The new style card will have either the mygovscot or the saltirecard logo replacing the OneScotland logo. Both card designs are valid for travel and will be accepted by bus operators. You will notice that the new style over 60s card no longer has a valid to date. This means it is now a card for life. Cards issued on the grounds of disability will continue to display a "valid to" date.
What if I already have the new style card?
If you already have the new style card then there is no need to contact us. Please ensure you start using your new card as soon as it arrives and destroy any old cards you may have.
What do I need to do if I still have an old style card?
If you have not already received your new card, you should contact the council now. If you are still at the same address as your last card issue, then you can arrange a renewal over the phone, or by email. Contact details are on this page.
Please note, renewals can only be carried out this way for cardholders aged 60 or over. Disabled card holders will be required to visit a council office to renew their card.
What if I have moved address?
You will need to take proof of your new address into any West Lothian Council Validation Point . Staff there will verify your details and arrange a renewal to be sent out to your new address.
If I have an old style disabled or visual impairment card that expires before 31 December 2016 will I receive a new card?
If your old style card expires before the end of the year, then you can renew it by taking your up to date proof of eligibility into any West Lothian Council Validation Point.
If I have an old style disabled or visual impairment card that expires after 31 December 2016 will I receive a new card?
If your old style card expires after 31 December 2016 and you haven't already received a replacement then please contact the council to arrange for one to be sent out to you. If you have moved address since your last card was issued then you will need to take proof of your new address into any West Lothian Council Validation Point.
Please note that this is a replacement and not a renewal so the expiry date will remain the same.
What if my card expires the in the first few months of 2017?
If you take your up to date evidence of eligibility into any West Lothian Council Validation Point, then staff there will arrange to renew your card early.
Is it correct that my new card has no expiry date on it?
Yes, cards issued based on age (60+ cards) will no longer have an expiry date on their card. Cards issued to those with a disability or visual impairment will continue to have an expiry date on their cards.
Will I still be able to use my old style card after 31 December 2016?
No. The old style cards will cease to work on the buses after 31 December 2016 and you may be charged full fare for your journey.
