Archives

West Lothian Council Archives and Records Centre (new window) preserves and makes accessible records relating to the history of West Lothian. We hold records reflecting the history of both local government and the wider community. The archival holdings date from the 16th century to the present day and include the records of West Lothian Council and its predecessor organisations, the Livingston Development Corporation collection, poor law records and a number of private deposits including the records of Bathgate Forge Ltd.

The records come in a variety of formats such as minutes, reports, building warrant registers and drawings, correspondence, school registers and log books. The Livingston Development Corporation collection also includes a large number of photographs, board drawings and architectural plans.

A finding aid, relating to our poor law records, is downloadable from this site as a Word Document.

A list of the archive collections held by West Lothian Council Archives and West Lothian Council Local History Library has been compiled by the Scottish Archive Network (SCAN) and can be viewed on the SCAN website (new window) . The SCAN website also includes details of historical records relating to West Lothian held elsewhere.
