How does the eBook service work?
If you are a member of West Lothian Libraries, you can login into our secure eBook service and select up to 4 eBooks to download or reserve at any one time for up to 21 days, 24/7 absolutely free!
(If you are not already a library member, you can join at any West Lothian Library. You will need to provide 2 pieces of ID, 1 of which must contain your name and address.)
There is a wide range of titles for both children and adults.
*Parents are responsible for their children's selection as we cannot restrict what children can download.
No risk of overdue charges as eBooks automatically expire at the end of loan period.
This service will only be available from your home PC, Apple or Android device, including Kindle Fire. It will not be available in your local library.
How do I choose an eBook to download?
Logon to the West Lothian Libraries eBook service using your the barcode from your Library Card and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number).
Click HERE (new window) to open the site.
On your first visit you must register before you logon.
Select the title you wish to download by either browsing by 'Latest Arrivals' or by 'Genre', or by entering text into the search field.
Select by clicking on the title.
If the title is available and wish to download it, click on 'Add to basket'. (If the title is out on loan you will be able to place a reservation).
This will take you to the Basket Items Screen.
You will notice that the title has been reserved for 30 minutes to give you time to consider any other titles you may wish to download, up to the maximum of 4.
When you are ready, click on the 'Checkout' button. The title will then be issued to you at which point you can start the download process to your PC/MAC/Device.
How long does the eBook stay on my PC/MAC or eBook Reader?
The eBook is for a loan period up to a maximum of 21 days at which point the eBook will expire and will no longer be readable on your PC or eBook reader. The eBook then becomes available for another user to download. We advise selecting fewer than 21 days before downloading if you wish to fully utilise your 4 loan entitlement and are likely to read the book in less than 21 days.
Which readers are compatible?
You can download your titles onto your PC or MAC, Apple iTouch, iPhone or iPad and Android devices and the Kindle Fire.
Visit the Adobe web site for the current list of devices compatible with Adobe Digital Editions. If your device is not listed then we suggest you contact your device manufacturer to check if your eReader supports Adobe DRM titles.
A popular eBook app for Apple iTouch, iPhone or iPad is Bluefire Reader. For Android users we recommend using Aldiko.
