Bathgate Once More
A new exhibition charting the story of Bathgate's truck and tractor workers opens in the town's Bennie Museum on Thursday 24 November 2011. The exhibition tells the whole story, from the coming of the British Motor Corporation (BMC) factory to Bathgate in 1961, to its closure on 27 June 1986, based on first hand accounts of some of the thousands of people who worked there.
The Bathgate Once More exhibition opens on 24 November.
Opening hours: Thursdays to Saturdays, 11am - 3.30pm (until the end of February 2012)
Location: the Bennie Museum, 9-11 Mansefield Street, Bathgate, West Lothian, EH48 4HU.
Cholera!
A new booklet has been published by West Lothian Local History Library on the cholera outbreaks in West Lothian. Three outbreaks of this horrible disease affected West Lothian's towns and villages in the mid 19th century. What was espeically frightening was its inexorable spread, and the speed with which it killed: a person might be in perfect health at daybreak and dead by nightfall.
Eyewitness accounts and memories of the disease as it affected Bathgate, Linlithgow, Kirkliston, Broxburn, and other local communities are combined in this fascinating booklet. It is available, priced £1.20 from the Local History Library in County Buildings, Linlithgow, and all branch libraries.
For more information, phone 01506 282491, or email sybil.cavanagh@westlothian.gov.uk.
