SOCIAL WORK ADDICTIONS TEAM

The Social Work Addictions Team (SWAT) aims to provide an accessible and flexible service which enables individuals and families to take positive action to address drug related harm. The service is aimed at individuals and families experiencing significant health, social, relationship, financial or legal harm related to drug use. We will work with clients who are willing to acknowledge the adverse impact of their substance use on themselves and/or others, meet with a worker to explore difficulties, identify problems, consider options, make choices and take action.

  • a rapid response with offers of an appointment within 7 days of referral (for drug services)
  • assessment of needs and support to access appropriate services
  • time limited, goal focused work with clients
  • work with clients to raise awareness of parental substance use on children
  • access to drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation services
  • assessment for community care services where chronic alcohol use is associated with significant social/health risks (even if the client is unable or unwilling to stop drinking)
  • advice and consultation for workers on matters related to substance use
  • a partnership approach with referrers
