Make a date with the Senior People’s Forum
West Lothian's Senior People's Forum has announced its meetings for 2012 and the group is hoping to attract new members.
The dates are 9 February, 12 June and 16 October. All meetings take place from 1pm to 4pm in Space 3 at the Howden Park Centre, Livingston. Everyone aged 60 and over is welcome. Simply put a date in your diary and turn up.
Executive councillor for social policy and Chair of the Senior People's Forum Isabel Hutton commented: "The aim of the forum is to provide an opportunity for the council and local senior people to act in partnership in reviewing and addressing the future challenges we jointly face.
"It is an opportunity to harness the experience, opinions and desires of senior people, and provides an opportunity for people to express their views on a wide range of issues."
The Senior People's Forum is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to the lives of older people. The Forum can make recommendations for use of the Challenge Fund.
Recent successes include:
*The Pensioner Income Maximisation Service: a dedicated team offers assistance and advice on all types of benefits income to people aged 60 and over. For more information contact the West Lothian Advice Shop, Bathgate Partnership Centre, Lindsay House, South Bridge Street

*The Food Train: This shopping and delivery service is available to those aged 65 plus who, due to frailty, illness or disability, are unable to shop for themselves. As demand for the service grows, volunteers are still being sought so if you have some spare time and would like to assist please contact 01506 654360. Requests for the shopping service may also be made using the same telephone number during normal office hours, 10.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
*Dementia Cafes: Plans are well underway to support the further development of up to nine dementia cafes in communities across West Lothian.
