Memorial to Brian Duguid

West Lothian Council’s Children’s Services and Lifelong Learning Committee has approved the proposal to name the auditorium in Howden Park Centre in memory of Brian Duguid.

The Brian Duguid Auditorium will recognise Brian?s major contribution to music and the arts in West Lothian and the redevelopment of Howden Park Centre in particular.

Brian Duguid was a leading figure in the world of youth band music and ensured that West Lothian was recognised as having one of the best and most progressive instrumental music programmes for schools in the UK.

As Arts Manager, Brian Duguid also succeeded in establishing a very effective and comprehensive programme of arts activities and events for the local community. It was through his vision and determination that the three-venue arts strategy was formed.

West Lothian Council?s spokesman for Libraries, Arts and Culture, Councillor Bert Gamble, commented: ?Committee welcomes the proposals to name the auditorium at Howden Park Centre ? the Brian Duguid Auditorium. This is a very fitting tribute to someone who made a tremendous impact to music and the arts in West Lothian.?

When it reopens in 2008 Howden Park Centre will be a showpiece for music and the arts and will provide a base for the arts in West Lothian.
