Lothian Lives Project

Lothian Lives logo2

Ever wanted to know how people in the past really lived, what they did, what they felt and how they saw the world around them? Ever wondered about your local area and the secrets of its past?

West Lothian Archives and Records Centre has worked with other Lothian archives to create a blog which tells the stories of the people that lived in the Lothians and the records they created. These entries provide a flavour of the types of record that you may discover on a visit to the Archives and Records Centre.

The entries on the blog are organised on a thematic basis such as "Politics and War" and "Social Conditions", but you can browse through the entries from each of the archives. This site is also linked to Flickr and will allow you to explore digital images from our collections.

This resource has been created for you. Please feel free to browse, leave comments or make suggestions for future postings. The blog will be regularly updated with more stories, as well as news about our archives.

To access the blog, please click here. (new window)

Feeling inspired? Come and see the records in person. Contact the Archives and Records Centre on 01506 773770 or email :

The Lothian Lives project is the result of a joint funding bid by West Lothian Archives, Edinburgh City Archives, East Lothian Archives and Midlothian Archives. The project has been funded by the Scottish Council on Archives, and is intended to build awareness of the collections of local archives.
