At your service
We know that there are 100s of reasons why you might want to contact the council. Our aim is to make it as easy as possible access to our services, help and information when it is convenient for you. The Customer Service Centre (CSC) - 01506 775000 - is open from 8am until 10.30pm, giving you easy access to highly trained advisers.
Head of Customer Service for the council, Sandra Aird said: "Our aim is to meet and exceed your expectations and we do this by being available when you want to contact us. Last year the CSC handled 236,506 calls an increase of more than 3.68 per cent. Our advisers can make appointments for tenants to see their Housing Officer, take payments, record comments and complaints, organise bulky uplifts and help with environmental issues. Specialist advisers can also help you with advice on housing and council tax benefits, set up a direct debit and much more."
Customer Service Centre manager Anna Brash commented: "We have introduced an email service so that you can contact us at anytime - day or night. We recently introduced Telly Talk, a video conferencing service, at Carmondean Library so that you can speak face-to-face with a member of the team. As you would expect the busiest times are between 9am and 5pm so you may wish to email: customer.service@westlothian.gov.uk instead. We also listen to your comments. For example you told us that you have problems getting through during the day - so we are opening later in the evening. We are also considering new technology which will allow you to leave a message sooner."
The CSC is also home to West Lothian Careline - which monitors 3,200 people who use the Home Safety Service, which helps vulnerable people live at home. We also support a further 258 clients in Housing with Care/Sheltered Housing complexes. In addition provide a new service called Lone Worker, which allows staff working alone in the community to call us if they get into difficulty.
Tell us who has the WOW! factor: If you have received outstanding service from our staff, then why not nominate them for a WOW! award? We want to hear about the individuals and teams who have gone that extra mile to provide you with genuinely exceptional service.
The WOW! Awards were established in 1999 and are based entirely on customer nominations. We are the first local authority in Scotland to pilot the scheme, which has already been successful for Haringey Council in England and a number of private companies. Pick up a nomination form at participating council services, or download the .pdf file from the link on the right.
You can also nominate online at www.thewowawardswebs.co.uk/westlothian/nominate.php (new window) or email nominations to wow.awards@westlothian.gov.uk making sure you include the individual and/or service name, where they are based, and a full explanation of why you are nominating them. Please also ensure and include your own name, address and contact information.
