Regeneration and town centre management

West Lothian's five traditional town centres - Armadale, Bathgate (new window) , Broxburn, Linlithgow (new window) and Whitburn - have, over recent years, felt the impact of economic change and changing shopping patterns. These changes also offer opportunities and the Economic Development service works closely with Town Centre Management Groups, which bring together organisations and individuals with the collective aim of creating vibrant, sustainable and prosperous communities in our traditional town centres.

Well-established groups already exist in Bathgate (new window) and Linlithgow (new window) , while embryonic groups are in the process of being established in Armadale and Whitburn. These groups co-ordinate or support social, cultural and economic events / activities within the town and also promote the town as a good place to live, do business, shop, socialise and enjoy. Support is also given to initiatives that improve the quality of life of residents and enhance the experience of visitors, such as the Fair Trade Town initiatives (new window) or the Cittaslow initiative which is being promoted in Linlithgow (new window) .
