Armadale and Blackridge

Enterprising pupils at Armadale Primary School have been warmly praised for scooping a top business award

The Armadale and Blackridge ward consists of Armadale, Blackridge, Westrigg, Westfield and Torphichen.

Locality Planning is being developed across West Lothian within each multi-member ward.  This process involves partner agencies from the public, private and voluntary sectors working together with communities to jointly plan local services. Locality Planning has a particular focus on addressing the key priorities within a local area.

Local Area Committees have been established in every ward.  These Committees will be a forum through which local issues can be discussed and will encourage discussion between local members, local officers and the wider community, playing a key role in Locality Planning.

Armadale and Blackridge's Local Area committee members are Isabel Hutton, Stuart Borrowman and Jim Dixon.

A Locality Plan for Armadale and Blackridge will be developed which will detail those key priorities specific to this area and the ways in which organisations will work together with the community to tackle these issues.

The chair of the local area committee, Councillor Isabel Hutton, said she was pleased at the public response to meetings being held within the community.

So far, the local area committee has met twice at Armadale community centre and, most recently at Armadale Academy.

Improvements for Armadale town centre were discussed at the Local Area CommitteeAt the community centre meetings, members of the public and representatives of community groups discussed potential Armadale town centre improvement projects. The relocation of the Superloo from the traffic lights area was a favoured suggestion, as was improvements to car parking, requests for benches and the idea of a town brochure.

And  at Armadale Academy, a number of senior pupils witnessed the proceedings. That meeting was preceded with a look at the replacement Armadale Academy currently under construction. Also discussed at the Armadale Academy meeting was the five-year detailed capital plan for block budgets, which includes items such as open space, property and roads, structures, lighting and water-related infrastructures.

Police ward reports are normally given at the local area committee meeting, as are NETS and land services and housing reports.

Fundraising events organised by two Armadale schools have raised £1,110 for UNICEF to help provide water and sanitation programmes in The Gambia, West Africa.Councillor Hutton urged more members of the public to get involved in the new structure. "We will also be taking the local area committee out to Blackridge, Westfield and Torphichen," she added.

"We are consulting with local people and we hope they will come along and help set the agenda for their local community."

A Locality Plan for Armadale and Blackridge will be developed which will detail those key priorities specific to this area and the ways in which organisations will work together, with the community to tackle these issues.
