Livingston North

The Livingston North ward consists of Deans, Knightsridge, Newyearfield, Eliburn and Livingston Village north of the River Almond.

Locality Planning is being developed across West Lothian within each multi-member ward.  This process involves partner agencies from the public, private and voluntary sectors working together with communities to jointly plan local services.  Locality Planning has a particular focus on addressing the key priorities within a local area.

Local Area Committees have been established in every ward.  These Committees are a forum through which local issues can be discussed and will encourage discussion between local members, local officers and the wider community, playing a key role in Locality Planning. 

Livingston North's Local Area Committee (LAC) members are Andrew Miller, John Cochrane, Robert De Bold and Bruce Ferrie.

Livingston North LAC back calls for a public inquiry

The Livingston North LAC unanimously agreed to recommend a public inquiry as their preferred format for the appeal into plans to build a hotel at Deer Park.

A planning application to build a three star hotel was refused in April, after a significant number of objections.

After hearing from a number of concerned local residents in support of a public inquiry at their August meeting, all four councillors felt this was the best way to ensure the views of the public will be fully heard.

This recommendation will now be passed to Scottish Ministers, who have the final decision on the appeal format.

A guide to the services and activities available for young people in the Livingston North area is currently being developed.

The LAC also backed plans to build a new community facility in Livingston Station.

All four councillors supported the proposals to construct a new £1.2million purpose built community centre.

Consultation showed over 78% of those surveyed wanted the new facility, but a number of local residents have been campaigning for the existing community centre to be refurbished instead.

This recommendation will be passed to the council executive for a final decision.
