Business Rates
Business Rates (National Non-Domestic Rates) is a tax we raise and collect from business properties such as offices and shops.
We collect payments of this tax on behalf of the Scottish Government.
We pass the money we collect to the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government takes the money collected from all councils and passes it back through grants.
Business Rates Deferal Scheme 2009/2010
The Scottish Government has introduced a Business Rates Deferral Scheme for 2009/10. Businesses can choose to defer 3% of their 2009/10 rates over the next 2 years with 50% of the deferred payment being due in 2010/11 and the other 50% being due in 2011/12. An application must be made to the Council before payment can be deferred. An application and further information on the scheme can be downloaded below.
