This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices relating to mailing lists for West Lothian Council.
Information Collection and Use
West Lothian Council is the sole owner of the information collected by this mailing facility. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement.
Mailing List Registration
In order to use the features of this mailing list, users must first complete the registration form. During registration, users are required to give their contact information (name and e-mail address). This information is solely used to contact users about the topics for which they have expressed interest and to enable users to retrieve lost passwords. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (Postcode and Age Group). No other personal information will be collected or stored.
Cookies
A Cookie is a piece of data stored on your computer that identifies you when accessing the council's newsletters. The sole use of this information to track the links you make in our newsletters. It allows us to gauge the effectiveness of newsletters and the popularity subject areas contained within them. This information is solely used to enhance your experience and the content of newsletters. Users have the option of disabling or not accepting cookies by changing the preferences on their browsers*. If users opt to disable cookies, they will still be able to use our mailing list facility without any impact. No personally identifiable information is collected with the cookies that we set. Accepting cookies while on the West Lothian Council site will not put the user at risk for marketing to other sites.

This privacy notice applies solely to information collected by the mailing list function of the council's web site.
Security
This Web site takes every precaution to protect our users' information, and we have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control.
Send This to a Friend
If users elect to use our 'Send this to a Friend' function, we ask them for the friend's name and e-mail address. West Lothian Council will automatically send friends a one-time e-mail message inviting them to visit the site. West Lothian Council stores this information temporarily for the sole purpose of sending this one-time message.
Opt-in/Opt-out
Our users are given the opportunity to 'opt in' or to 'opt out' to newsletters subscriptions and e-mail alert messages. To unsubscribe from mailings, please follow the link on any newsletter received or follow the directions in emails. You can also change your account details by logging on to the members page and update your newsletter subscriptions, the user can simply deselect the topics and click the "update" button.
Data Protection and Privacy
We will only collect enough information to allow us to send you alert emails or newsletters you have asked for. This information will not be used for any other purpose and will not be disclosed or made public at any point.
