New Deal traineeships

 

New Deal was launched in April 1998 and offers individually tailored, practical help and support to help improve a person's job prospects and to build up the skills needed by local businesses.

West Lothian Council have the Prime Contract with Jobcentre Plus for delivering New Deal in West Lothian and work in partnership with:

  • West Lothian College
  • Lauder College
  • Voluntary Action West Lothian

New Deal for 18-24 year olds

You are eligible for New Deal if you have been unemployed and on jobseekers allowance for 6 months or are disadvantaged in the labour market, ie have a disability or are a lone parent.

Training Options:

  • Environmental Taskforce, 13 week programme offering training and potential placement opportunities
  • Voluntary Sector Option, 13 week programme focusing on a work placement with a voluntary organisation
    • 2, 4 and 6 week job focused training
    • 13 week European Computer Driving Licence
    • 26 week Basic Skills provision
    • 26 Childcare Training incorporating a childcare placement

New Deal for those 25 and over

You are eligible for New Deal if you have been unemployed and on Jobseekers Allowance for 18 months or more or are disadvantaged in the labour market, ie have a disability or are a lone parent.

New Deal Training Options:

  • Intensive Activity Period, 13 week provision offering training and potential placement opportunity
  • 26 week Basic Employability Training
