West Lothian residents are being offered a unique volunteering opportunity to take a close look at the council behind the scenes and help to make services better for everyone.
The council is looking for people to join a 'Register of Interest' who:
*are genuinely interested in West Lothian
*would like to help improve council services
*can commit to volunteering for eight days, over the summer for training, undertaking inspections and reporting on what they find
West Lothian Council offers a complex range of services, often to diverse groups with differing needs and wishes. West Lothian Council is keen to ensure that every means possible is used to engage local people in the process of delivering and improving services. Citizen Led Inspections will empower residents and take consultation and customer engagement to a new level. It will provide a fresh perspective to the council?s review activity, injecting new ideas and alternative views into the decision-making process.
The Citizen Led Inspection is a unique opportunity to see how the council works from behind the scenes and have an impact on the way that council services are delivered in the future. The experience could be beneficial as a positive experience for people who are looking for work, at university or interesting to someone who is employed and looking for a career development opportunity. Volunteers could carry out inspections and report on their findings or participate in focus groups and consultations.
Volunteers need to be able to commit to a number of days, which will include two days training, undertaking an inspection of four or five days and helping to prepare a report on their findings. Support will be available throughout the process. Everyone who is included on the register could be consulted on different aspects of service provision.
West Lothian Council already has a number of citizens who provide an insight into council services including the Citizens' Panel, Considerate Contractor lay persons and Housing, Construction and Building Services 'Tenant Led Inspections'.
