Council Services
With around 8,000 staff providing more than 100 services West Lothian Council is the biggest employer in the area. The council provides a range of services such as education, social work, housing, environmental health, planning,economic development, highways and transport.
We have one Chief Executive, three Depute Chief Executives, and 10 Heads of Service. The areas of responsibility of the Depute Chief Executives are:
- Education, Planning and Area Services
- Corporate, Operational and Housing Services
- Community Health and Care Partnership
Police and fire services are provided on our behalf by the Lothian and Borders Joint Police Board and the Lothian and Borders Joint Fire Board.
Valuation services are provided on our behalf by the Lothian Valuation Board and electoral registration services are carried out by the Lothian Electoral Joint Committee.
Licensing premises for selling alcohol and for betting and gaming is carried out in West Lothian by the West Lothian Licensing Board .
