Marriage - ceremonies

 

PLANNING YOUR WEDDING IN WEST LOTHIAN

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF CEREMONY IN SCOTLAND

 A Civil Ceremony or a Religious Ceremony

  • A civil marriage can take place in a registration office or an approved venue.  Civil marriages can be carried out only by:

·         a registrar who has been authorised by the Registrar General

·         or assistant registrar who has been authorised by the Registrar General

  • A religious marriage (Christian or non-Christian) can be carried out only by:

·         minister

·         member of the clergy

·         pastor

·         priest

·         or other person entitled to do so under the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977

 

 If you have decided on a Civil Ceremony

1. Firstly you should decide where you wish your ceremony to take place, this can be either be in an approved venue or in either of our two registraion offices in Bathgate or Livingston.

2. Pick a date and a time then check the availability with your Registrar and Venue

3. If you have decided on an office ceremony you will be required to pay an non refundable deposit of £55.00 which can be made either in person or by telephone.

4. If you have chosen a venue, they will supply you with an AP1 form which you will hand into the registration office with a non refundable deposit of £100.00

5. Your next step will be to lodge your marriage notices.
