Sports activities - general information
Sports Activities
The Sport and Outdoor Education Service run a variety of sporting activities through Sporting Choices; an out of school/holiday programme that offers classes for children and young people aged 3-16 years. Classes running during the school term include Trampolining, Gymnastics, Football, Badminton, and Swimming. With Athletics, Basketball, Active Fun Active Feet (multi-activity) and Outdoor Education activities also available during school holidays.

School Term Activities:
Trampolining
Trampolining is an activity which can be enjoyed by participants of all abilities. Book on the courses to learn a variety of jumping moves; straight jumps, pikes and tucks.
Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a sport that involves physical exercises designed to develop and display strength, balance and agility. Participants will work individually or in pairs and in teams. Specialist equipment is also used such as springboards and vaults.
Football - SFA Mini Kickers
The aim of mini kickers is to aid each child's development in three basic ways; physically, psychologically and socially in a fun filled, safe environment. These courses are for 3 to 5 year olds who are currently attending nursery school.
Badminton
Mixed classes for both beginners and improvers. They will start by introducing the basic rules and skills of the game, and progress to improving through simple routines and fun game practice. Top quality coaches will also deliver the new Badminton Scotland Sportshall Challenge and all equipment will be provided.
Swimming
The structure of the Learn to Swim Scheme consists of eight progressive levels and covers the following key stages of development: Safety, fun and play, entries and exits, floating, streamlining, breathing, sculling, development of the four strokes, kick and pull techniques and an introduction to early endurance practices.
School Holiday Programme:
Active Fun Active Feet
The active schools team are once again delighted to offer all primary aged pupils in West Lothian the chance to take part in fun activities and sports throughout the summer in a variety of different venues with our popular Active Fun, Active Feet Roadshow. These activities will include parachute games, golf, tops play/sport activities and many more.
Athletics
This is a well-established UK Athletics programme with adapted equipment for younger participants. Activities include running, jumping, throwing and free goodies bags available to all participants
Badminton

Basketball
At this camp children will be taught to dribble, pass, shoot and defend. Basketball is a fast, dynamic team sport that is very popular in the schools throughout West Lothian. The camp will be supported by the West Lothian Wolves basketball club. Club coaches will deliver the camp programme that will teach participants the various skills used in the game of basketball and how to apply these skills into a game situation. The week will be full of fun games and activities aimed to improve the participant's skill level and knowledge of the game.
Football
West Lothian Council and SFA Schools Holiday Programme offers boys and girls aged 3-14 years old the opportunity to participate in a safe fun football environment. The courses aim to promote the development of skill such as shooting, dribbling, heading and controlling this helping to develop the creative aspect of play.

Outdoor Education Activities
Another exciting programme of activities for children aged 8 and over will take place from Low Port Centre. Choose from kayaking, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, climbing and biking. Can't make up you mind? Why not combine them all on a multi-activity course. Mums and dads can join in our family weekend courses too (maximum of 2 children per adult). Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
