Armadale volunteer Jemma Boyle has picked up a national award after taking a photograph of a West Lothian street.  

Road closed for bridge remedial work

The C1 Stonerigg Road, Armadale, will be closed between Netherhouse Cottage and North Rigg Farm from Tuesday 6 April to midnight on Sunday 18 April.

The closure is to allow for the partial reconstruction of bridge wing walls and remedial work to be carried out to the bridge.

An alternative route is available via the B718 Westcraigs Road,B7066 and B8084 Armadale Road.

Pedestrians are not affected.

Road closed for realignment

A 350 metres section of the B8084 Tippethill Road, north of Tippethill House, will be closed until Monday 5 April.

This is to allow carriageway regrading and realignment to be carried out.

An alternative route is available, via the A706, A801 and A89 East Main Street - South Street.

Help for Haiti from Afternoon club

The Friday after school club in Armadale performed a Burns themed show including songs, dancing and old school games.

The club raised £100 for Haiti earthquake appeal.

Walk this way in Armadale

The Armadale Put Your West Foot Forward group meets every Tuesday morning at 10am, setting off from various locations and returning to the starting point for that week.

Walks last for between 45 minutes and an hour and include a short walk option.

New walkers should arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to register.

The March walks are: 2 March, Community Centre to The Glen; 9 March, St Anthony's Primary School to East Fells; 16 March, dog track to dog track; 23 March, St Anthony's Primary School to Blackmoss.

No special equipment is required, just comfortable footwear. Walks are led by two walk leaders, one at the front and back, so walkers can set the pace to suit themselves.

Invite to pupils' exhibition

Pupils at Blackridge Primary held an exhibition of paintings and other artworks by the whole school from in the Craig Inn Centre.

The ?Local Landscape National Treasure? exhibition was held in association with Scottish Natural Heritage

The paintings were inspired by the Blawhorn Moss National Nature Reserve on the school's doorstep.

Jemma's pic earns top national award for volunteer

An  Armadale volunteer has picked up a national award after taking a photograph of a West Lothian street.

Jemma Boyle entered her snapshot in the Living Streets competition for a picture of a local street on one day of the year.

Jemma, who works daily as a volunteer at Voluntary Sector Gateway, in Bathgate, was one of just two national winners.

Ironically, she was a last-minute entrant in the digital photography class through which she entered the competition. When Jemma saw the workman sitting down she thought it was a great pose for a photo.  In her spare time she likes going shopping and hanging out with her friends, and watching TV.  She also loves Lady Gaga.

Campaign cuts down on car crime

A poster campaign has helped reduce thefts from vehicles in Armadale.

Leaflets were attached to residents' vehicles within the problem areas and posters were distributed to all retailers.
