Project looks to tell the tale of Bathgate truck and tractor plant
Organisers of a project to research, record, preserve and tell the story of the Bathgate truck and tractor plant workers are holding an open day at the town's Regal Community Theatre on Saturday 9 October.
At one time, the plant employed up to 7,000 workers.
2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the coming of the plant to Bathgate and the 25th anniversary of its closure.
"At this stage we are trying to let as many people and organisations know about the project and to encourage former workers and those interested in researching the history of the plant or who have other information to share to come to our open day, said Elizabeth Bryan, area tutor organiser with Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders Area Workers' Educational Association.
The open meeting takes place from 10am to 12.30pm.

Fab time had by all
Fourteen young people from Bathgate Fabb club headed to Germany recently, to take part in an international youth exchange with young people from Germany and Poland.
The exchange, based in Beinrode, in the Eichsfeld area of Germany provided the opportunity for all to understand the culture and history of the area.
The programme was interesting and stimulating and also involved a lot of fun.
The main issue for all young people with and without a disability was to understand the different languages. Music, video and interactive sessions helped all understand each other.
Planning is already underway for a visit to Poland in July 2011.

Stephanie reaches out for help with fundraiser
A young Bathgate mum is holding a fund-raising charity masquerade ball in aid of Reach - a charity that supports children with upper limb abnormalities.
For Stephanie Tennant's eight-month-old son Daniel (pictured above) was born with a similar abnormality.
"I was not aware of Reach until he was born," said Stephanie, "and, as you can imagine, this was a hard time for me.
"But the hospital put me in touch with Reach and the help I received was amazing."
Now Stephanie is busy organising the big fund-raising night, at the Cairn Hotel, Bathgate, on Saturday 4 September.
Family and friends have all rallied round to help Stephanie, and her two brothers will be getting waxed on the night in aid of the charity.
Tickets for the ball are selling quite well, but there are still plenty available. And Stephanie is hoping that local companies will donate items for raffle or auction.
"All companies who donate will recieve promotion on the night," added Stephanie.
