Community Safety - Housing Estates

West Lothian Council are committed to creating a safe and pleasant environment for people to live in.

Twelve community safety wardens following an intensive six-week training programme now operate in Boghall, Blackburn, Knightsridge and Ladywell. The wardens will complement existing services such as Neighbourhood Environment Teams (NETs) and Neighbourhood Response Teams. As well as acting as mediators within communities they will be able to report environmental issues to colleagues in cleansing, housing, roads and NETs.

The wardens will focus on prevention of crime and anti-social behaviour. They will build close relationships with community groups, the police, council services colleagues, and become known to the local people.

The starting point in tackling anti-social behaviour will be local agreements known as Good Neighbourhood Agreements and Community Action Plans. These agreements will be developed in consultation with local councillors, community councils, tenants and residents associations, local businesses, housing associations and young people.
