Home improvement grants

We provide advice and assistance to house owners, housing associations and council tenants who are eligible under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

The property must be:

• the applicant's main and only residence 
• the council tax band must not exceed band E 
• not be a barn conversion

The applicant must be the owner of the property.  On completion meet certain standards, it must:

• be of a tolerable standard
• have all the standard amenities and be in a good state of repair 

Exceptions: where a property is under 10 years old or a council band F property it may be eligble under the following exceptions: if a property lacks a fixed bath or shower, a wash hand basin or a sink or a hot and cold water supply to any of these or a water closet.  Grants to provide adaptations for people with physical disabilities or fire escapes for people with houses in multiple-occupation or Lead pipe replacement
