Welcome to West Lothian Active Schools
Main Aim
The main aim of Active Schools is to introduce more physical activity into the daily lives of pupils through active travel, play and dance.
More people, More Active More Often - that's the message West Lothian Schools are reinforcing today as they take part in the Active Schools West Lothian programme.
Background
The Scottish Executive awarded Sportscotland a budget of £24 million to implement Active Schools throughout Scotland. This project consisted of 32 Active School Managers, 260 Active Schools Coordinators (Primary) and 370 Active Schools Coordinators (Secondary) - all of whom are based in Local Authorities and schools throughout Scotland.
This programme is a joint initiative between West Lothian council and Sportscotland as part of the Healthy Living Campaign.
West Lothian Council has a total of 14 Active Schools coordinators working across the region working in primary, secondary and special schools.
What is Active Schools?
Active Schools is a term given to all schools in Scotland that provide pupils with sufficient opportunities to get active to the extent that it makes a positive contribution to their health.
Active Schools West Lothian offers school-aged pupils the motivation and opportunities to adopt active, healthy lifestyles throughout their school years and into adulthood. Active Schools is not just about encouraging more pupils to take part in sports and exercise.
