Excellence in School Sport Programme

The vision for the Excellence in School Sport Programme (ESSP) is to provide a co-ordinated and planned approach to high quality sports coaching for talented and aspiring pupils during curricular and extra curricular school, as part of a balanced curriculum.

The programme aims to help our most talented sporting pupils to achieve their full potential by assessing opportunity for high quality training within West Lothian, whilst obtaining academic qualifications.  We also hope that our talented sports pupils can assist to aspire other pupils and help create a strong and vibrant sporting ethos within secondary schools.

This year the programme is expanding to offer support to younger student athletes (S1-6) competing at a high standard (County, National/International Level).  The level and type of support will be determined on a case by case basis. Applications from younger pupils are welcome.

2010/11 will also see the Excellence in School Sport Programme offer support to an increased number of sports. If you know of a student athlete competing in a sport currently not under ESSP that would benefit from the ESSP support services please encourage them to fill in an application form.  Support will be given on a case by case basis, which will be agreed between the student athlete, their parents, their school and the ESSP Programme Manager.

The Excellence in School Sport programme will take place at a number of different schools, venues and facilities and shall initially include 6 sports:

.           Basketball

.           Golf

.           Swimming (applications through clubs)

.           Rugby

.           Girls Football
