Light pollution
There is no current legislation in Scotland governing light pollution but this will be available from January 2009. In the meantime, Environmental Health can deal with light pollution issues informally but have no enforcement powers.
There is a Scottish Government Guidance Note available on Information on Controlling Light Pollution and Reducing Light Energy Consumption available from the Scottish Government website which can also be accessed under Related Links.
Planning Advice Note (PAN) 51 "Planning, Environmental Protection and Regulation" published by the Scottish Government looks at light pollution considerations in the planning process.
More information can be obtained from Environmental Protection UK.
